If you’re like me and wake up only to have enough time to get dressed, grab your keys and run out the door chances are breakfast is not in anywhere in that routine.

With being the most important meal of the day, there are ways to simplify your morning and your breakfast without having to wake up an extra thirty minutes than usual.

I have always been a big oatmeal fan for my weekend morning breakfasts, and I have recently discovered overnight oats, which helps keep me going in the morning until lunch time. Overnight oats are high in fiber and protein, and even better with the adding of chia seeds it keeps your belly from bloating- which we all hate, don’t we?

The great thing about overnight oats is that you can really make it your own way with the fruits you like.

Here is all you need to jump start your morning:

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats- steel cut oats works too
  • 1/2 cup milk – any milk will do depending on what you prefer
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds- I usually do 1.5-2 because I love chia seeds
  • 2 tablespoons almonds- can be slivered or not, up to you!
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract- if you are using natural vanilla be careful because it does have a strong taste
  • Added bonus: sprinkling cinnamon, some like to do maple syrup as another option
  • The fruits I add:
    • Tarty Taste: blueberries, strawberries, blackberries and raspberries
    • Fruity: Apples, bananas and peaches
    • Sour Taste: Raspberries and kiwis

There you have it, a few minutes the night before can make the next morning a whole lot easier. Besides who doesn’t love eating breakfast in a mason jar?
